What happens to your brain when you dwell on the negative?

Think positive: it’s easy to give such an advice, but are we really able to do that?

If you’ve ever found yourself trapped in a seemingly endless loop of negative thinking, or wondered why you fixate on a stray rude comment but easily forget compliments, you may have a culprit to blame: evolution.

 

According to neuropsychologist Rick Hanson, humans are programmed for negative thinking: our mind focuses on the “bad” and forgets the “good”. Just think of our ancestors: it was way more important for them to avoid threats than look for rewards.

For this reason, human brain evolved to be focused on threats. Nowadays, we are familiar with stress and depression, especially in business contexts. And this makes us less productive.
